Sony VAIO W and VAIO Y Series Notebooks review

Sony unveiled its Atom Pine Trail-based VAIO W and CULV-powered VAIO Y series notebook. The former is an eco-friendly mini notebook with a reprocessed plastic chassis comprised of approximately 23 percent recycled CDs.

The VAIO W is boosted by Intel Atom N450 1.66GHz processor, 1GB f RAM and GMA 3150 graphics. It has a 250GB hard drive and a multi-in-one card slot. The VAIO W comes with a 10.1-inch 1366×768 LED-backlit display. Sony’s VAIO Y series, instead, sportsIntel Core 2 Duo SU7300 1.3GHz CULV processor, 4GB of RAM and GMA 4500MHD graphics with HDMI output. It gets up to a 500GB hard drive and a 13.3-inch 1366×768 LED-backlit display.

Both VAIO W and VAIO Y have a MOTION EYE webcam, an ExpressCard/34 slot, an Electro-Static touch pad, a SD and a Memory Stick slots. They support Bluetooth and WiFi. The VAIO W can also add the optional Verizon Mobile Broadband.

Sony’s ultra portable VAIO W comes in Berry Pink, Navy Blue and Sugar White and starts at $449.99 while the VAIO Y is available in Black and starts at $799.99.
